woman under procedure

Lips can be a source of anxiety for some. They’re one of our main communication tools and they take center stage when we talk.
It then follows that you would want to perfect your lips if you’re not satisfied with their appearance. And you’re not alone if you are going for a lip enhancement procedure.

The number of procedures done each year has increased nearly 50% since 2000. And that number is growing each year.
But now that you’ve decided to change your lips, how do you prepare? I’ve put together 5 tips to help you get ready.

1. Find A Driver

A lip enhancement procedure is an outpatient procedure. This means you won’t stay overnight after the procedure.
However, you’re not going to be ready to drive right after the procedure. You will most likely have some powerful pain medications in your system as well.
You want to make it home safely after surgery, right?

While you may not have the money to hire a driver, you can usually rely on a friend or family member to get you home.
If you feel you need to pay them, take them to dinner once you fully recover. You’ll be able to show off your beautiful new lips.

2. Be Honest With Your Doctor Before Your Lip Enhancement Procedure
It’s important you disclose all drugs and medications you are taking to your doctor.

Even if it’s something embarrassing, your doctor won’t tell anyone, I promise. And it’s actually against the law for them to do so.

If you’re taking blood thinners like Aspirin, you might need to stop taking them for a time beforehand.
If you smoke, you will have to stop smoking for a few weeks, both before and after, so ask your doctor about ways to manage cravings during this time.

3. Wear Loose Clothing To Your Lip Enhancement Procedure

You’re going to be quite sore afterward and you will need to avoid any contact with your face.

Loose clothing, especially a button-up shirt of some sort, will help with this.
A shirt you can pull over your head easily can suffice. You will have to be careful still when you remove this clothing.

4. Establish A Home Recovery Area

You’re going to want a nice quiet and comfortable place in your home–a place where you can recover in peace.
Get a bunch of pillows to prop up your head. You will want to keep the surgery site elevated to bring down swelling from your lip enhancement procedure.

Ensure you have ice to put in an ice bag, and be certain to use whatever ointment your doctor prescribes you. Also, stock up on soft foods like jellos, puddings, yogurts, and oatmeals.
Be sure to have a phone nearby.

5. Relax

Your doctor and his team have this in hand. They’ve done thousands of these procedures and they are excellent at what they do.
While it’s understandable that you are nervous, there is no cause for concern.
