Do you look in the mirror and feel frustrated with the reflection that stares back at you? Do you have hollowed cheeks, sagging skin and lines and wrinkles forming that are causing you to look older than you feel? If so, you aren’t alone. Countless men and women seek treatment every year that can turn back the hands of the ageing process and help them to achieve a more radiant and youthful appearance.
While there are thousands of products on the market claiming to be able to do just this, the reality is that the effects of these creams, lotions, gels and supplements are mediocre at best. It can take months to see any improvement at all, and continued use is necessary to sustain the effects that you can see.
Fortunately, there is an alternative. An increasing number of people are now turning to minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as injectables.
Restylane® is the name of a range of injectable hyaluronic acid-based products that are used in non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Restylane® facial fillers are one type of product within this range now available at our cosmetic surgery offices in Boca Raton, Florida.
Restylane® and the use of Hyaluronic Acid
All Restylane® products are based around a naturally-occurring sugar molecule found in our bodies known as hyaluronic acid or HA. Hyaluronic acid molecules have several functions. However, they are primarily responsible for keeping our skin well hydrated, as well as providing essential support and structure that helps to protect it from damage. The main way it does this is through its unique ability to bind water molecules. In fact, HA molecules can hold up to 400 times their own weight in water.
Unfortunately, as we age our skin’s natural production of hyaluronic acid slows. This can cause our skin to become drier, thinner and lose its natural radiance. It also becomes less firm, sagging and leading to lack of definition in our facial contours. These changes can make us look older, sometimes significantly older than we truly are.
Restylane® products add hyaluronic acid to the skin, filling lines and increasing volume in the key contours of the face such as the cheeks. In doing so, skin is smoother, fuller and more youthful in appearance.

The procedure for Restylane® Facial Fillers
The process to receive Restylane® facial fillers is minimally invasive. Many of the injections come with a small amount of lidocaine which helps to ensure that you will not be in any pain. The needle used to deliver the injections is also very fine, helping to minimize any discomfort that might ordinarily be felt. The injections themselves only take a few minutes at a time, and depending on how many you are having, you can typically expect the appointment to take less than an hour. After the treatment is complete, you will shortly be able to leave our offices and return home. We recommend that you take the rest of the day off of work, just to give you time to rest and let the fillers settle.
Are there any side effects from Restylane® facial filler treatment?
Restylane® products are FDA approved and thus considered to be very safe, with very few people experiencing adverse effects. Common short-term effects include marks where the needle has penetrated the skin, slight bleeding and bruising. Serious side effects include allergic reactions, redness of the skin, infection and skin necrosis. However, these are extremely rare and generally only associated with improper administration of the treatment.
How long do the effects of Restylane® facial fillers last?
Exactly how long you can expect the effects of Restylane® to last can vary between patients, but typically the results are evident for between six and nine months before a new treatment is needed.
